Gamers looking for improved hard-drive read and write access, should be happy to know that Samsung came up with a 2.5 inch SATA 111 internal SSD workhorse with a 1TB capacity. the MZ-76E1T0B/AM Samsung 860 EVO drive is one of the fastest drives tested , showing a clear improvement over the 750 and 850 EVO SSD drives, outperforming in speed comparisons.

I can confidently state that boot-up times improved drastically on my Windows 10 desktop pc, running a 500MB Samsung SSD drive and everyone will agree that more available hard-drive space is definitely a PLUS! In my books there is just no looking back, or even considering  a mechanical hard-drive, which is prone to mechanical failure and sector corruption, sometime or another during its life-time cycle.  The  Samsung MZ-76E1T0BW 860 Evo 1TB Internal Solid State drive is Samsung’s mid-range capacity solution which has been specifically designed for general desktop use, using the 3bit MLC 3D V-Nand solid state  flash, commonly referred to as Triple Level Cell (TLC) technology with a maximum capacity form factor of 4TB.  Samsung improved the speed of its product line of 550MB/s read and 520MB/s write times to and from the drive, having it’s  Turbo-Write buffer size increased  to 78GB from  previously only being 12GB. We found that it allows for consistent drive speed access  even under heavy workloads and multi-tasking instances, allowing  faster file transfer when required. The drive performs well where storage, retrieval and rendering of large 4K video productions and instances where applications require 3D data rendering are required. Users will also Benefit from faster, more fluid communication with host systems. The new MJX controller with its refined ECC* algorithm generates higher speeds, and improved queue trim enhances Linux compatibility.

 

 

The Samsung 860 EVO is backed by a 5-year limited warranty. The new 860 EVO line is identical to previous EVO lines,  meaning that it has a black case, displaying a Samsung logo and a sticker placed on the back of the drive with relevant information, indicating the model number, serial number, and capacity of the drive.

CONSUMER COMMENTS:

  • For the layman, like me:
    The EVO 860’s are dimensionally slimmer and more compact than the generic SSD’s they are replacing. Re-start times decreased dramatically from 15-20 seconds, to just 3-4 seconds. RAM use at idle decreased from 37% to 16%. I would recommend the Samsung EVO 860 2.5″ SATA drives, it exceeds generic SSD qaulity and specs by far.
  • Decent price, easy install. The great thing about this purchase is that being a very good brand and trusty SSD I definitely got my money’s worth. The performance I gained from it was definitely worth it and I use it mainly for games since I was running out of space I needed something that was a bit faster and decent size to fit the games I would need it for. Oh … Amazon did me a solid, combined this order with an earlier order, got this a full week earlier than projected.
  • My PC used to have a traditional hard disk drive, which served its purpose well – except when it came to booting up the system which, due to the multitude of recording and instrument software, would take 2+ minutes to start up. Even switching to a Solid State Hybrid Drive only reduced the boot time by about 10 seconds – still unacceptable. The Samsung SSD goes from zero to ready in an average of 12 seconds! That’s more like it. Data transfer rates are also exceptional. If you are considering moving up to an SSD, the Samsung has a great track record, which is why I bought it in the first place.
